Furniture designer:LAIN, meaning ‘different’ or ‘unique’ in Malay, was founded by Hani Ali, a furniture designer-maker. Graduated in the year 2001 from UiTM in Interior Architecture, continued her studies atCentral TAFE, Perth in Advanced Furniture Design, and then later at UniSA, Adelaide in Industrial Design. Hani continued to pursue her design training at the JamFactory Contemporary Craft & Design Centre, a renowned centre assisting emerging artists and designers in developing their skills in product making, gallery exhibitions, individual and studio commissions and entrepreneurships located in Adelaide, South Australia. With her vast experience and multi-training, Hani returned to Malaysia passionately to set up LAIN. The Studio, which consist of Hani and her team of future Designer-Makers, does not only design and produce furniture for a string of clients ie. Architects, Interior Designers, Design Students, Retailers and Corporates, but their Studio Workshop is open for rental to Artists and Designers who wish to build prototypes and design pieces using their workshop facilities. They provide introductions to furniture-making machineries and tools at their workshop in Subang Jaya through their woodwork program called WOODwork with LAIN for Beginners and Advanced learners.
